The train that crosses the Friendship Bridge into Uzbekistan in Northern Afghanistan.
Due to our unique location as a landlocked nation, Afghanistan serves as a “Gateway to Central Asia.” We are bordered by six countries: Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and China. Northern Afghanistan shares borders several of those countries and offers key routes into Central Asia and Russia.
Afghanistan’s only rail services are located in Northern Afghanistan. One connects the Friendship Bridge between Termiz in Uzbekistan and Haryaton in Afghanistan’s, Balkh Province. The second is located between Kushka in Turkmenistan and Towraghondi in Faryab Province.
In addition to various land routes into and out of our region, Northern Afghanistan also boasts of many airports, domestic and international, located in Mazar-i-Sharif (Balkh Province), Bamiyan (Bamiyan Province), Kunduz (Kunduz Province), Sheberghan (Jowzjan Province), Fayzabad, Shegnan, and Khwahan (Badakshan Province), Mainama (Faryab Province), and Taloqan (Takar Province).
